What could be more Swiss than the Matterhorn?
Where are gourmet cooking and enjoyment more fully lived and cultivated than in Zermatt?
With these thoughts in mind arose the wish for a food festival. Inspired by this dream, and considering the events in Gstaad, Lucerne, and St. Moritz, the idea of the TASTE OF ZERMATT was born. So the motivation of the founder Kevin Kunz.
We managed to enthuse the driving forces of Zermatt for this dream. Thanks to their support, and in close collaboration with the acclaimed Gault&Millau restaurants and hotels, the first TASTE OF ZERMATT took place in August 2011.
Inspired by the collaboration and the motivation to enliven the summer, Taste of Zermatt is becoming a fixed programme point on the Zermatt event calendar.
The Kitchen Party with 170 guests was sold out! Circulating in the two kitchens of Mont Cervin Palace and Grand Hotel Zermatterhof, 17 chefs with their 233 Gault&Millau points inspired the participants. Participating Valais vintners accompanied the event with their wine specialities.
The big public attraction was at the church square, where a whole Eringer cow was spit-roasted over a charcoal fire. The hungry guests polished off the 400 servings in short order, despite the overcast skies.
At the 13 food stands along Bahnhofstrasse visitors could taste and buy traditional local products. This market was so successful that every producer will be back this year!
On Sunday the weather refused to cooperate for the gondola breakfast, so the event was simply postponed one week – and the wait was worth it. The most beautiful sunshine illuminated an indescribable panorama as the 120 guests thoroughly enjoyed their breakfast in a Matterhorn Express gondola gliding towards Trockener Steg.
Taste of Zermatt is:
See for yourself!
